丹东市自考办成立于2002年12月，是高等教育部批准的独立注册的非盈利性民办高等学校。学校依托于丹东市人民政府，依法独立运行、自主管理。

学校占地面积近2万平方米，建筑面积1.8万平方米，总投资近3亿元人民币。学校拥有一批具有高学历、高素质、敬业的教师队伍和完善的教学条件，能够满足不同年龄、不同文化水平、不同就业要求的人员的学习需求。

目前，学校开设有成人本科、成人专科、成人中等职业教育(中技)和成人高等职业教育(中专)四大学历教育培养体系。其中成人本科是通过对工作中心或企事业单位工作3年以上具备一定工作能力的成年人员进行申请入学考试，取得相应文凭后可以直接申请工作岗位;成人专科是对工作中心或企事业单位工作1-3年以上具备一定工作能力的成年人员进行申请入学考试，取得相应文凭后可以直接申请工作岗位;成人中等职业教育(中技)是对初中以上文化水平，15周岁以上(含15周岁)的成年人员进行申请入学考试，取得相应文凭后可以直接申请工作岗位;成人高等职业教育(中专)是对初中以上文化水平，17周岁以上(含17周岁)的成年人员进行申请入学考试，取得相应文凭后可以直接申请工作岗位。
